Insights Issue 10: An Overview of Dengue in Nepal

Dengue fever in Nepal has been a growing concern over recent years, with marked increases in reported cases in recent years. Nepal has experienced several outbreaks in the past years (2022), with significant ones reported in the Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley. Factors such as urbanization, increased population density, and climate change facilitate the breeding of the Aedes mosquitoes that transmit dengue virus. Addressing these factors through integrated vector management, improved surveillance, targeted education initiatives, and collaborations between public health authorities, local governments, and communities is critical to control the incidence of dengue fever in Nepal.
